Empowering Women: From Beginner to Intermediate Dirt Biking Adventures

Have you ever felt the thrill of revving up an engine?

My own journey with riding motorcycles began 20 years ago in Nicaragua. I vividly remember feeling overwhelmed and intimidated by my first bike. With no prior knowledge of throttle or clutch control, I took the plunge and purchased a Honda 200 XL, setting the wheels in motion for my lifelong love affair with bikes.

From navigating paved roads to mastering dirt trails and single tracks, I became a self-taught rider, always approaching the experience with humility. During my time in Nicaragua, I extended my passion to empower other women, helping them gain confidence in riding motorcycles—a common mode of transportation in the region.

Here's a story for you: I'm navigating the rugged terrain in Nicaragua, surfboard in tow, eager to catch some waves at a nearby spot, Playa Colorado. Suddenly, I hit a rough patch and accidentally popped a wheelie, sending me and my bike tumbling to the ground. As I pick myself up, shaken but unharmed, I'm greeted by a pack of howler monkeys ( they make the scariest sound you have ever heard) who seem less than impressed with my acrobatics.

In a moment of panic, I rev my engine, hoping to scare them off. Instead, they start heading in my direction at a very fast pace, curious about the commotion looking for dinner! With adrenaline pumping, I waste no time mounting my bike and making a swift exit, leaving the monkeys in my dust.

Now, you might be wondering about the fate of my surfboard. Well, I'm happy to report that I emerged from the ordeal unscathed, and I made it to the waves in one piece. Just another day in the life of a dirt bike enthusiast!

…For me, motorcycles have segued into a significant part of my life. They are not only my trusty vehicles but also a passion focus for both my personal fulfillment and my career.

Over the past two years I’ve grown a company, Nomadas Drift, hosting events and retreats focusing on dirt biking and exploring Baja California Sur's untouched beauty. I've had my challenges learning and gaining confidence in the desert terrain but it’s a challenge that will only make me a better more confident rider.
